Severe Weather Warning Issued Across the UK as Wind and Rain Approach
The Met Office forecasts challenging weather conditions for parts of England, Scotland, and Wales, starting Sunday.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for both wind and rain as the UK braces for severe weather on Sunday.
The warnings, which will come into effect in the early hours of Sunday, cover various regions including parts of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
The south-west of England is expected to begin experiencing showers around midday.
For Northern Ireland and Scotland, a yellow wind warning will be in place from between 3am and 6am.
Authorities have cautioned that the severe weather could result in travel disruptions, minor power cuts, and localized flooding.
Zoe Hutin, a meteorologist at the Met Office, indicated that Sunday is expected to be the most challenging day in the short-term forecast.
The inclement weather is anticipated to ease overnight, with conditions expected to improve in the days following.
Hutin noted, "Today has been decent across the country, but from around 3am tomorrow morning for Northern Ireland, and 6am for mainland UK, we have severe weather coming in from the west, featuring very strong winds."
Rainfall warnings are in effect for the South West of England, south Wales, and parts of north-west England and south-west Scotland.
The heaviest rainfall is expected in south-west Scotland and northern England, with some areas in the South West possibly receiving up to 90 millimetres of rain.
The wind warning for mainland UK is set to expire at 6pm on Sunday; however, blustery conditions may persist into the evening.
Despite this, Ms Hutin expressed that following the rain warnings, the weather situation is expected to gradually improve.
By Monday morning, remaining rain is forecasted for the far south-east, along with cloudy skies across England.
Hutin stated that while Monday might remain damp, there are prospects for sunshine to return, particularly in intervals between showers.
Temperatures on Monday are predicted to be mild and above average for the time of year, with the south of England seeing temperatures up to 13 degrees Celsius and Scotland and the north of England nearing 10 degrees Celsius.
However, as the week progresses, temperatures are expected to decline back to seasonal averages without reaching colder extremes.
The Met Office emphasizes the importance of staying informed regarding updates to weather warnings as conditions develop.
