Inter-Island Ferry Services Between Guernsey and Jersey Set to Expand
Multiple operators announce new routes and schedules to enhance connectivity between the Channel Islands.
Ferry services between Guernsey and Jersey are poised for significant expansion, with several operators introducing new routes and schedules to meet increasing demand.
Brittany Ferries, Guernsey's primary ferry provider, has confirmed the launch of a weekly inter-island sailing every Wednesday, commencing in early April.
Tickets for these services are slated to go on sale this Wednesday.
Concurrently, DFDS, the main operator for Jersey's routes, has announced plans to initiate its own weekly service between the islands, with ticket sales expected to commence shortly thereafter.
In addition to these developments, discussions are underway with Manche Iles Express to provide supplementary passenger ferry services, further enhancing inter-island connectivity.
Deputy Neil Inder, President of Guernsey's Economic Development Committee, highlighted the substantial demand for these services from the tourism, sports, and cultural sectors, acknowledging the frustration caused by previous delays in ticket availability.
The increased interest is reflected in a 77% rise in bookings from French passengers to Guernsey compared to the previous year.
Furthermore, Islands Unlimited, a ferry operator, has unveiled plans to introduce a daily foot-passenger-only fast ferry service between Guernsey and Jersey, anticipated to commence operations by June.
The proposed schedule includes daily departures from Guernsey at 7 a.m., with a journey time of approximately 70 minutes to Jersey.
The final return service is scheduled to leave Jersey at 6:35 p.m. on weekdays and 8:35 p.m. on weekends.
These collective efforts by multiple ferry operators aim to enhance transportation links between the Channel Islands, catering to the diverse needs of residents and visitors alike.
