Police Close Sections of M4 Motorway Near Bristol After Human Remains Discovered
Listen
Human remains found on M4 near Bristol prompt road closures and investigation by Avon and Somerset police.
Police have shut parts of the M4 and M48 motorways near Bristol after human remains were discovered on the carriageway.
The remains, believed to be those of a man in his 40s, were found between junctions 20 and 21 of the M4 at 6:40 pm on Saturday.
Several drivers had reported seeing something on the road, prompting a response from Avon and Somerset police.
The M4 section between Almondsbury and Awkley, as well as the M48 between junction 1 and the M4, have been closed in both directions.
Links from the M5 to the M4 are also closed.
The closures are expected to cause delays in and out of Wales and may remain in effect until the early hours of Sunday.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the discovery, working to identify the deceased and notify next of kin.
Authorities are asking for information or dashcam footage from anyone who traveled on that stretch of the motorway.
