Police Investigate Fatal Tram Collision in Manchester
A three-year-old girl dies following a collision involving a van and a tram in the city centre.
Authorities in Manchester are investigating a tragic incident that occurred on Saturday morning, where a three-year-old girl died after being involved in a collision with a tram.
The Greater Manchester Police reported that shortly after 9:56 AM, a van struck the tram on Mosley Street.
The impact caused the tram to veer onto the pavement, leading to a collision with the young girl, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the van fled the scene following the incident, prompting police to initiate a search for him.
No arrests have been made thus far.
Assistant Chief Constable Stephanie Parker expressed condolences to the victim's family and confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with multiple lines of inquiry being pursued.
Police have cordoned off the area around Mosley Street, Booth Street, and Nicholas Street as they gather evidence.
They are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen the van driver escape to come forward.
Concurrently, public transport services have been disrupted, with the Bee Network confirming that tram services between St Peter’s Square and Piccadilly Gardens are suspended.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a 40-year-old man has died in a separate crash involving an ambulance near Elgin in Moray, Scotland.
The ambulance was responding to an emergency when it struck the pedestrian.
This incident is also under investigation, and authorities are appealing for witnesses as they work to establish the circumstances leading to the man’s death.
Furthermore, major traffic disruptions have occurred on the M4 and M48 motorways near Bristol due to the discovery of human remains on the roadway.
The highways were closed following multiple reports, with police conducting investigations to identify the deceased and determine the events that led to the situation.
The closures, which impacted traffic movement significantly, were lifted in the early hours of Sunday after police completed necessary inquiries.
