Record Surge in Anti-Muslim Hate Crimes Across the UK in 2024
Incidents of Islamophobic assaults and abuse reach unprecedented levels, with significant increases in offline cases and male victims.
In 2024, the United Kingdom experienced a significant rise in anti-Muslim hate crimes, with incidents reaching record levels.
According to data from Tell MAMA, an organization monitoring Islamophobic incidents, 6,313 cases were reported last year, marking a 43% increase from the previous year and a 165% rise since 2022. Notably, for the first time since the organization's establishment in 2012, more men than women were targeted in these incidents.
The surge in anti-Muslim sentiment has been linked to events such as the Israel-Gaza conflict and the Southport murders, which have fueled rhetoric falsely portraying Muslims as terrorists or sympathizers.
The UK government has expressed deep concern over these findings and has pledged to combat anti-Muslim hatred and racism in all forms.
