British journalist Charlotte Peet, aged 32, has been reported missing in Brazil since February 8, 2025. Peet last communicated with a friend, indicating she was in São Paulo and intended to travel to Rio de Janeiro.

Her family, based in the United Kingdom, lost contact with her shortly thereafter.

They have provided authorities with her flight details and a copy of her passport to assist in the search efforts.

The Association of Foreign Press Correspondents in Brazil (ACIE) has expressed concern over her disappearance and solidarity with her family and friends.

The case was initially reported to police in Rio de Janeiro but has since been transferred to São Paulo, where she was last known to be.

The Department of Homicides and Personal Protection (DHPP) is currently assisting in the investigation.

Peet has an extensive background in journalism, having worked as a freelance correspondent in Rio de Janeiro and London for outlets including Al Jazeera and The Times.

She is fluent in Portuguese and had returned to Brazil in November 2024 after previously residing there for nearly two years.

Her father, Derek Peet, has expressed deep concern over her disappearance, noting it was unusual for her to travel without informing her family.

The British Foreign Office has stated they are supporting Peet's family and are in contact with local authorities regarding the situation.
