Central Cee Equals MOBO Awards Record; Bashy and Ayra Starr Among Top Honorees
The 2025 MOBO Awards celebrate achievements in music of Black origin, with Central Cee matching the all-time awards record.
The 27th annual MOBO Awards took place on February 18, 2025, at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, honoring excellence in music of Black origin.
Central Cee, a prominent figure in the UK rap scene, secured the Best Male Act award for the second consecutive year, bringing his total MOBO wins to seven.
This achievement ties him with Stormzy as the most-decorated rapper in the awards' history.
Central Cee, born Oakley Caesar-Su, is renowned for tracks like 'Sprinter' and 'Doja' and released his debut album, 'Can't Rush Greatness,' in January 2025. British rapper Bashy, also known as Ashley Thomas, made a notable return to music after a 15-year hiatus, winning Best Hip-Hop Act and Album of the Year for 'Being Poor Is Expensive.' British-Nigerian artist Darkoo was honored as Best Female Act and received Song of the Year for 'Favourite Girl,' featuring Dess Dior.
Odeal, a German-born artist, was recognized as Best Newcomer and Best R&B/Soul Act.
Nigerian singer Ayra Starr made history by becoming the first African woman to win Best International Act and the first woman in 16 years to receive Best African Music Act.
The ceremony also featured special honors: Olympic gold medalist Dame Denise Lewis received the Paving the Way award, and Jamaican dancehall artist Vybz Kartel was presented with the Impact Award.
The event included performances by Nova Twins, Krept & Konan, Odeal, Darkoo, and Bashy.
The MOBO Awards continue to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of artists within the music of Black origin.
