Significant Travel Disruptions in London Due to Multiple Incidents
Major train delays and road closures reported following incidents near King's Cross and Tower Bridge.
Rail commuters in London are facing significant disruptions due to an incident that occurred between King’s Cross and Stevenage, which has currently closed all lines in the area.
National Rail confirmed that emergency services are actively working at the scene, leading to substantial delays and cancellations for several services.
Passengers may experience cancellations, delays of up to 60 minutes, and diversions.
The affected routes include all London North Eastern Railway (LNER) services to and from London King's Cross, as well as the Thameslink services connecting Welwyn Garden City and Sevenoaks.
The disruption coincides with a separate incident that led to the temporary closure of Tower Bridge.
This bridge was shut to vehicle traffic after a man scaled its structure early in the day.
The incident caused traffic congestion stretching from Limehouse through to the Highway and into the one-way system back to Aldgate, while buses were diverted as a result.
Firefighters and police were on the scene for approximately two hours before the man was safely brought down, reopening the bridge shortly after midday.
Transport for London reported minor delays on the Victoria Line, which followed a previous incident at Stockwell Tube station involving a customer who required assistance.
This incident on the Victoria Line led to considerable delays earlier in the day, prompting Transport for London to issue updates.
The spokesperson indicated that delays were attributed to a person near the tracks who was successfully helped by staff.
In another travel incident, the Blackwall Tunnel has reopened following the clearance of a lorry crash that occurred earlier in the morning.
The crash caused significant traffic delays in the surrounding area due to the closure of the southbound section of the tunnel.
Motorists reported delays lasting up to three hours as emergency services worked to clear the scene.
Separately, a fire in a tunnel near Heathrow Airport disrupted access to Terminals 2 and 3 earlier in the day.
The fire, involving a diesel-powered vehicle, occurred before 3 am and necessitated the closing of the M4 southbound between junctions 4 and 4A.
Airport officials advised passengers to allow extra time for their journeys as normal access was affected, although the tunnel has since reopened.
In recent days, London has experienced multiple similar incidents, including a protracted situation involving a person scaling the Elizabeth Tower, commonly known as Big Ben, which resulted in extended traffic disruption and a police response.
