UK Experiences Warmest Day of the Year as Temperatures Set to Drop
Temperatures reach nearly 20C in parts of the UK, surpassing popular European holiday destinations.
The United Kingdom recorded its warmest day of the year to date this past weekend, with temperatures reaching nearly 20 degrees Celsius in various locations across the country.
Regions such as the east and west coasts of England recorded particularly high temperatures, which exceeded those of popular holiday destinations including the Balearic Islands and Costa del Sol.
Craig Snell, a meteorologist at the Met Office, confirmed that the warm conditions extended to Scotland and Northern Ireland, describing it as a generally pleasant weekend.
On Sunday, it was officially recognized as the warmest day of the year so far.
However, forecasts indicate a gradual decline in temperatures as the week progresses, with rain expected in numerous areas throughout the UK. Mr. Snell noted that while the southern regions might retain mild weather on Monday, with temperatures around 17 to 18 degrees Celsius, cloud cover would increase.
In contrast, northern parts of the UK are expected to feel significantly cooler, with incoming bands of patchy rain set to progress southward.
By Tuesday, most of the country will likely experience a drop in temperatures, with northern and eastern areas anticipating scattered showers.
Temperature predictions indicate that northern regions may only reach between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius, while southern areas could see temperatures ranging from 8 to 9 degrees Celsius.
Mr. Snell emphasized that conditions would remain in single figures throughout midweek, marking a stark contrast to the warm temperatures experienced during the weekend.
He further elaborated that while the week may not bring continuous rain, there will be ample dry spells.
However, persistent breezes are expected to contribute to lower temperatures during this period.
Towards the end of the week, a slight rise in temperatures is anticipated as the weekend approaches.
