Starmer Vows to Renegotiate Brexit Deal Amid Far-Right Rise in France
Labour leader Keir Starmer has pledged to renegotiate parts of the post-Brexit Trade and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union, regardless of a potential far-right win in France. Yet, Starmer maintained that a Labour government would not re-join the EU's single market or customs union. His comments came as Labour leads in UK opinion polls ahead of Thursday's general election.
UK Labour leader Keir Starmer has stated his intention to renegotiate elements of the post-Brexit Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) with the European Union, irrespective of the far-right National Rally's potential success in France.
His comments come as Labour is leading in opinion polls ahead of Thursday's UK general election.
Marine Le Pen's National Rally, led by 28-year-old Jordan Bardella, gained 33.4% of the vote in the first round of France's legislative elections, putting them in a strong position for the second round.
Starmer emphasized his willingness to work with any European government and advocated for centrist governance to address public discontent.
He confirmed a Labour government would not seek to re-enter the EU's single market or customs union.
