Paris Restaurant That Inspired 'Ratatouille' Loses $1.6 Million Worth Of Wine
The Tour d'Argent, a historic Parisian restaurant featured in the movie "Ratatouille," reported a loss of over $1.6 million in rare wines. Around 83 bottles, including the highly-valued Romanee Conti, have gone missing since the previous inventory in January 2020.
Despite an extensive 18-month refurbishment and reopening in October, no signs of theft were evident when the disappearance was noticed during a check of the cellar—the largest in Paris with 300,000 bottles. Authorities have been notified
Selling the numbered missing bottles could prove challenging due to their traceability. Some of the absent wines come from the acclaimed Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, known for costly vintages, which can fetch tens of thousands of dollars each.
Tour d'Argent has entertained numerous celebrities across its 400 years, such as Queen Elizabeth and Paul McCartney. It is renowned for its views of Notre Dame and its signature duck dish.
Post-renovation, the restaurant boasts a bar, luxury suite, rooftop, and an open kitchen. A detailed and hefty 8kg wine catalog has been created to mark the reopening, presented to guests on a trolley.
