French President Emmanuel Macron responded to Donald Trump's victory by saying, "Donald Trump was chosen by the American people to protect American interests. We, as Europeans, need to ask ourselves whether we are ready to safeguard European interests."
With Macron having lost the confidence of the French public, we can only hope it will be the citizens of Europe who rise to safeguard their own interests—not Macron, Scholz, or other EU leaders, who appear more intent on safeguarding their personal agendas than those of the European populace.
