Three Charged in Connection with Liam Payne's Death
Listen
Investigation Continues into the Tragic Incident at Buenos Aires Hotel
Argentinian authorities have charged three individuals following the tragic death of One Direction star Liam Payne.
The 31-year-old singer died on October 16 after falling from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires.
One of Payne's companions has been charged with abandonment leading to death and the supply and facilitation of drugs.
A hotel employee and another individual have been charged with drug supply.
Payne, a former X Factor contestant and father-of-one, rose to fame with the boyband One Direction.
Following his death, police discovered drugs, damaged property, and received reports of his erratic behavior at the hotel.
Toxicology tests found alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system, and a post-mortem confirmed multiple trauma due to the fall.
Authorities ruled out suicide, citing Payne's semi-conscious state during the incident.
Extensive investigations include nine raids, examination of seized devices, and over 800 hours of security footage.
Payne's body has been released to his family for return to the UK.
Tributes poured in from his bandmates, former partner Cheryl, and music mogul Simon Cowell, as fans held memorials worldwide to honor the late singer.
