Ukraine Rejects Pope's Suggestion to Negotiate with Russia
Ukraine firmly rejected Pope Francis's suggestion to seek negotiations with Russia amidst the ongoing conflict, emphasizing their commitment to their national flag and sovereignty.
The Pope's comments suggesting Ukraine might need to concede ignited dismay in Kyiv, intensifying when he alluded to the concept of raising a white flag.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba took to social media, asserting Ukraine's resolve to stand by its yellow and blue flag and reject any form of surrender. He criticized the Pope's stance, urging him to align with the good and cautioned against equating Ukraine's defensive efforts with negotiations.
Kuleba also referenced historical instances of the Vatican's controversial actions during World War II, advising the Pope to not repeat past errors.
While welcoming the Pope's prayers and expressing hope for a Papal visit to demonstrate support for Ukraine's millions of Catholics and broader citizenry, Kuleba reaffirmed Ukraine's determination to retain its territory in the conflict with Russia.
