OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Denies Sister's Allegations of Sexual Abuse

Ann Altman files a lawsuit alleging years of abuse, while Sam Altman and family refute claims amid concerns over mental health
In a dramatic turn of events that sent ripples through the tech industry, Ann Altman has filed a lawsuit against her brother, Sam Altman, the chief executive officer of OpenAI, alleging long-term sexual abuse.

The legal filing, which was lodged in the state of Missouri, USA, alleges persistent abuse that began when Ann Altman was just three years old and her brother was 12.

The allegations culminate in a charge of rape, claiming the last known incident occurred when Ann was still a minor.

Responding to these serious charges, Mr. Altman released a joint statement through his social media account on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In a message co-signed by his mother and two brothers, he categorically denied the claims, labeling them "utterly untrue." The statement expressed deep concern for Ann Altman's wellbeing, citing ongoing family struggles linked to her mental health.

“Our family loves Annie and is very concerned about her wellbeing,” the statement declared.

“Caring for a family member who faces mental health challenges is incredibly difficult.” Mr. Altman's post included an image of the statement and a collective plea for understanding during what he describes as a painful family ordeal.

The family statement further notes that the Altman family has contended with various accusations from Ann Altman in the past.

They claim to have extended financial support and medical assistance offers to her, which they say she has declined.

The family has suggested that Ann's grievances may be influenced by her refusal to engage in what they have termed conventional treatment.

The lawsuit seeks a jury trial alongside a demand for damages exceeding $75,000.

Ann Altman’s legal representation has underscored her struggles with mental health issues, attributing them to the alleged abuse by her brother.

Sam Altman stands as a significant figure in the tech sector, recognized widely for his pivotal role in OpenAI's ascension, notably following the launch of ChatGPT in 2022.

This technological breakthrough significantly advanced generative AI and positioned OpenAI at the forefront of the AI industry.

As the case progresses, the accusations present a challenging juncture for Mr. Altman, who continues to lead OpenAI amid these personal and public difficulties.
