Despite the United Kingdom's stance that reparations were not on the agenda, the summit communique included language acknowledging calls for dialogue on reparatory justice related to the transatlantic trade of enslaved Africans and other historical grievances.
UK representative Keir Starmer emphasized that discussions did not focus on financial reparations, but acknowledged the importance of initiating conversations.
The communique stressed the need to address the historical impact on Commonwealth nations, particularly women and girls, and to forge a future based on equity.
