Vaccinated travellers from Brazil & India will require 14-day quarantine- Hon Malone

The [British] Virgin Islands (VI) has implemented full quarantine for persons travelling from Brazil and India, regardless of whether those persons are fully vaccinated or not.

This was announced by Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) in a COVID-19 travel requirement update shortly after 9:00 am today, May 7, 2021.

Persons traveling to the VI will need to provide Proof of a negative RT-PCR test taken 3-5 days before arrival, as well as proof of vaccination status.

No quarantine for vaccinated travellers outside of Brazil & India

According to Hon Malone, Cabinet has decided that effective May 15, 2021, while travellers who have been fully vaccinated with the final dose at least 14-days before travel, those persons will not be subjected to quarantine once their arrival COVID test is negative.

With both Brazil and India facing a COVID-19 crisis, he said; however, “this will not apply to persons travelling from or through Brazil or India. Cabinet had decided to amend the list of restricted countries under the Immigration and Passport (Prohibition of Entry) Order, 2021 to apply only to Brazil and India.”

‘Persons travelling from those countries who were granted permission to enter the Virgin Islands will be required to quarantine for a period of 14-days on arrival, that is from India and Brazil,” he said.

The BVI Gateway Travel Authorisation Certificate will be a requirement for all fully vaccinated travellers from all other countries at a cost of $105, reduced from a cost of $175, he said.

Proof of a negative RT-PCR test taken 3-5 days before arrival, as well as proof of vaccination status, will also be required. If the test is positive on arrival, he said quarantine will be required until a negative test result is received.

India's Covid-19 infections top 18 million as crematorium work around the clock to burn bodies. With both Brazil and India facing a COVID-19 crisis, Hon Carvin Malone announced travel policies for persons travelling from those countries.

Unvaccinated children will be released with parents

Hon Malone also announced that while unvaccinated children between the ages of 5-17 will still be tested, they will be released together with parents once the test result for the entire group is negative. Those unvaccinated children will be subjected to another test on Day 4.

Finally, the Health Minister announced that a fully vaccinated traveller may be approved for home quarantine in the VI, in a home where all the adult occupants are fully vaccinated.

He said the travelling party must be provided with a separate bedroom suite.
