Two Arrested Following Fatal Dog Attack in Bristol

Investigation underway after a 19-year-old woman dies from injuries sustained in a dog attack.
Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the death of a 19-year-old woman in Bristol, following a dog attack at an apartment complex in the Hartcliffe area.

Avon and Somerset Police responded to an emergency call at approximately 7:19 PM on Wednesday, where they discovered the victim, who reportedly sustained injuries from a dog believed to be an XL bully.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, but the young woman was declared dead at the location.

Authorities have confirmed that the arrested individuals, a man and a woman both in their twenties, face charges of owning a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death, as well as possession of a prohibited breed of dog.

They remain in police custody as investigations continue.

In a press briefing held on Thursday, Neighbourhood Inspector Terry Murphy announced that the dog involved in the incident has been euthanized.

Murphy has refrained from providing further details regarding the victim’s residence or previous police interactions with the household.

Initial assessments indicated the dog to be an XL bully; however, breed confirmation will be concluded through veterinary evaluations.

Murphy extended condolences to the family of the deceased, stating that they have been informed and will receive support from a specially trained officer throughout this process.

The incident has prompted an increased police presence in the Hartcliffe area, with officers advising residents to reach out if they have concerns.

A neighbor described the victim as a lovely girl who had recently moved into the property, expressing disbelief over the tragedy.

Local reports also indicate that the dog had previously displayed problematic behavior, particularly around men.

A full investigation is in progress to gather all circumstances surrounding the event that led to the woman's death.

Cobhorn Drive was temporarily closed to facilitate the investigation, and local residents were thanked for their understanding during this necessary measure.
