Liverpool Clinches Record-Equalling 20th English League Title Under Arne Slot

Reds secure Premier League crown with 5–1 victory over Tottenham, matching Manchester United's record
Liverpool Football Club secured their 20th English top-flight title with a commanding 5–1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on April 27, 2025. This win brings Liverpool level with Manchester United for the most league titles in English football history.

Tottenham took an early lead in the 12th minute through a header by former Liverpool player Dominic Solanke.

Liverpool responded with goals from Luis Díaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah, along with an own goal by Tottenham's Destiny Udogie.

The victory brings Liverpool to 82 points from 34 matches, placing them 15 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.

This title marks Liverpool's first under Dutch manager Arne Slot, who succeeded Jürgen Klopp in June 2024. Slot becomes the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League and only the fifth manager to win the title in his debut season.

Under his leadership, Liverpool has lost only two league matches this season.

The 2024–25 season also saw Liverpool's captain, Virgil van Dijk, become the first Dutch player to captain a Premier League-winning side.

Van Dijk signed a two-year contract extension on April 17, 2025, shortly after Mohamed Salah extended his contract.

Salah contributed significantly throughout the season, finishing as the league's top scorer and assist provider.

Liverpool's previous Premier League title in 2020 was celebrated without fans due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The 2025 triumph allowed supporters to witness the title clincher at Anfield, with thousands celebrating inside and outside the stadium.

The club's anthem, "You'll Never Walk Alone," resonated as fans commemorated the historic achievement.

Slot emphasized the club's consistent expectations, stating, "We have to compete for every trophy, and that didn't change when I came in and that doesn't change next season." He acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting the strength of other teams in the league and the Champions League.

Liverpool's success this season follows a period of dominance by Manchester City, who had won the previous four Premier League titles.

The Reds' performance under Slot has been characterized by a disciplined, risk-averse style, building upon the defensive foundations established during Klopp's tenure.

The club's ownership, Fenway Sports Group, and chairman Tom Werner have overseen this transition, maintaining stability within the squad.

Liverpool's home ground, Anfield, with a capacity of 61,276, has been central to the team's success, providing a formidable atmosphere for home fixtures.

As Liverpool prepares for the remaining fixtures of the season, the focus remains on maintaining performance levels and preparing for future competitions, including the Champions League.

The club's achievement under Slot adds a significant chapter to its storied history.
