Tragic Fire Claims Lives of Mother and Daughter in Northamptonshire
Three fatalities, including a four-year-old girl and her mother, reported in fire at historic former station house.
A mother and her four-year-old daughter have been identified as victims of a recent fire at a historic former station house in Northamptonshire.
Mayci Fox, aged four, and her mother Emma Conn, aged 30, both from Desborough, were among three individuals who lost their lives in the incident.
The third victim has been named as 23-year-old Louie Thorn, who hailed from Rushton, according to Northamptonshire Police.
The fire resulted in significant structural damage, including the collapse of the roof of the building, which is identified as a 19th-century former station master’s house associated with the now-closed Glendon and Rushton railway station.
Although the victims have been named following discussions with the coroner’s office and the support of their families, formal identification procedures are ongoing.
In the wake of the tragedy, a 54-year-old man from Kettering was initially arrested on suspicion of murder.
However, he was released without charge by the following evening, with police indicating that no further action would be taken against him.
The police have stated that there is currently no evidence suggesting that the fire was a result of criminal activity.
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow provided an update on the investigation, confirming that intensive efforts to understand the origins of the fire are being conducted.
She emphasized the importance of respecting the privacy of the families involved during this distressing period and noted that the arrested individual would receive support from specialist officers as part of the investigation process.
In addition to the three fatalities, one person was transported to the hospital by East Midlands Ambulance Service.
Three police officers also required assessment for potential smoke inhalation following their response to the incident.
Floral tributes have begun to appear near the scene of the fire on Beswick Close, off Station Road, as the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragedy.
