On Saturday, thousands congregated in Amsterdam for a rally aimed at addressing racism and fascism, highlighting increasing worries about the surge of far-right sentiments in the Netherlands.

The gathering drew a varied coalition of activists and organizations, including Amnesty International, Kick Out Zwarte Piet, the Dutch Palestine Committee, and Another Jewish Voice.

The protest was reported as peaceful, with authorities confirming that no arrests occurred during the event.

Demonstrators carried banners displaying messages like 'Never Again' and 'Fact or Faber,' while flags representing Palestine, Turkey, Ukraine, and the Black Lives Matter movement were visibly present.

Local media coverage observed that speeches throughout the march increasingly focused on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict but also expanded to include topics such as climate change, exploitation of migrant workers, Islamophobia, and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community.

This year's demonstration coincided with the International Day Against Racism and Discrimination, marked every year on March 21. Notably, the 2023 discourse included the theme of fascism, as organizers emphasized the perceived rise of fascist ideologies in Dutch society.

Coordinator Abdou Menebhi voiced concerns over the current political environment in the Netherlands, asserting that many citizens are unhappy with the government's treatment of Muslims and asylum seekers.

Following the establishment of a coalition government in 2022 that included four right-wing parties, critics contend that the political atmosphere has significantly shifted to the right, raising alarms about anti-democratic actions.

The demonstration mirrors a wider global trend of protests against racism, fascism, and related social issues, resonating not only in the Netherlands but also in various international contexts.
