Tragedy Strikes Rushton as Three Die in Historic House Fire
A devastating fire at a former station master's house in Northamptonshire leads to three fatalities and disruption of local train services.
Three individuals have tragically lost their lives following a significant fire at a historic former station master's house located in Rushton, Northamptonshire.
Emergency services, including police, fire, and ambulance personnel, were summoned at approximately 10:30 PM on Friday in response to reports of a large blaze at a property on Beswick Close.
Northamptonshire Police confirmed that the fire resulted in the deaths of three people, with no additional information regarding the age or identities of the victims provided at this time.
Visuals from the incident reveal extensive damage, including a large hole burnt through the roof of the 19th-century building, which was originally the station master's house for the now-closed Glendon and Rushton railway station and is classified as a Grade II-listed structure.
It is currently believed to be functioning as a residential property.
In an update from the police, it was reported that three officers required hospital assessment due to smoke inhalation sustained while responding to the emergency.
Mike Brightman, vice chair of Rushton Parish Council, expressed the community's sorrow, stating, "It’s a very sad day for the village, losing some of our residents in such a horrific way." Kettering MP Rosie Wintringham also conveyed her condolences via social media, expressing her sadness over the incident and gratitude towards emergency services for their response.
As the fire investigation unfolds, authorities from the police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service are working to determine the cause.
The incident has had a significant impact on local transport, leading to disruptions in train services between London St Pancras International and destinations including Corby, Derby, Nottingham, and Sheffield, attributed to damage inflicted on the railway line near the site of the fire, as reported by the National Rail.
Following the incident, road closures have been implemented on Saturday morning affecting Station Road between Desborough Road and Oakley Road, and residents are advised to avoid the area.
