Search Continued for 11-Year-Old Girl in River Thames Incident
Emergency services deploy extensive resources after girl reportedly fell into the river.
An extensive search operation is underway for an 11-year-old girl who fell into the River Thames.
The incident was reported to emergency services at approximately 1:15 PM on Monday at Barge House Causeway, near London City Airport.
Multiple emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene to conduct search efforts.
Witnesses in the area reported seeing two children near the water prior to the incident.
Kerry Benadjaoud, a local resident, recounted the moment when a neighbor alerted her that one of the children was in distress.
She stated that she rushed to the shoreline with a life ring but was unable to locate the girl upon her arrival.
Ms. Benadjaoud reported that she found clothing items—including shoes, a sock, a coat, and a phone—near the riverbank and turned them over to police authorities.
Descriptions from witnesses indicated that the girl had been paddling in the water before she fell in.
A young boy, who was reportedly playing with her, claimed he attempted to hold her hand but was unable to save her as she slipped into the water.
Police have confirmed that the girl’s next of kin have been informed about the situation and are currently being supported by officers.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service indicated that they were called to respond to the incident but were later stood down after evaluating the situation.
Initially, resources sent to the scene included an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer, and members of the hazardous area response team.
As of Monday evening, the search for the girl continues with a large-scale response from emergency services, focusing on locating the child.
