To Celebrate its New Williamsburg Store (Open Today!) Ganni Hosted a Dinner-Dance Party

Unsurprisingly, Ganni’s arrival in Brooklyn was cause for a seriously stylish celebration.

Copenhagen and Brooklyn are unquestionably two of the coolest cities in the world. Unsurprisingly, Ganni’s arrival in Williamsburg was cause for a seriously stylish celebration. Last night, a dazzling mix of models, muses, and artists toasted the Danish brand’s new store, opening today.

The event took place at Nightmoves, the elusive haunt on Grand Street. Layered with vintage furniture and personal details, the space suggests the home of a bohemian tastemaker rather than a professionally designed venue. Enormous speakers-so large they look like an art installation-hang from the ceiling. The focus on acoustics is fitting given that James Murphy, founder of LCD Soundsystem, is one of the owners.

The dinner was intimate and boisterous. Two small tables sat the likes of Paloma Elsesser, Princess Nokia, Ella Emhoff, Parker Kit Hill, and Gabriella Karefa-Johnson. The Four Horsemen next door provided a delicious summer feast.

Although July is not yet over, September was the month on everyone’s mind. In a single week, New York will host the VMAs, the US Open, The Met Gala, and of course, dozens of fashion shows and parties. As plans were exchanged, the excitement-and anticipated exhaustion-was palpable.

The evening’s two guests of honor were local designer Kim Nguyen of Nguyen Inc. and Columbian-born, Brooklyn-based artist Didi Rojas. For the Williamsburg store, Rojas created her first-ever mural as well as a ceramic footwear sculpture. Nguyen collaborated with the brand to produce a limited run of T-shirts that reimagine the iconic “I heart NY” design.

“I was given free rein,” Nguyen said of the partnership. “As long as the graphics were legal, I could do it.”

After dinner, the tables were stripped to make way for a dance party. As the music got faster and lights got dimmer, Richie Shazam, Kemio Kurosawa, Bretman Rock, and all the other fabulous Ganni devotees took the floor.
