South Korean authorities have summoned a Japanese woman for giving an unauthorized kiss to BTS member Jin.
A woman is alleged to have kissed Jin, a member of the K-pop group BTS, without his consent at a public event, resulting in claims of sexual harassment.
The South Korean police have summoned a Japanese woman accused of kissing Jin, a member of the internationally acclaimed K-pop group BTS, without consent.
This incident took place in Seoul last year, during Jin's initial public appearance after finishing his mandatory 18 months of military service.
At a meet-and-greet event attended by around 3,000 fans, Jin interacted personally with raffle winners, including offering hugs to 1,000 attendees.
The woman allegedly arranged to kiss Jin, whose real name is Kim Seok-jin, on the face, which visibly startled him as he turned his head away.
This interaction elicited considerable backlash from the BTS fan community, leading one fan to file a criminal complaint against her for sexual harassment in a public setting.
Reports indicate that the woman, thought to be in her 50s and currently living in Japan, has been formally charged and summoned to Korea for questioning.
The Songpa police station, which is overseeing the investigation, has chosen not to reveal her identity, citing South Korea's privacy laws.
BTS, which debuted in 2013, ranks among the most successful boy bands globally, boasting a vast fan base known as ARMY.
The group has been on a self-imposed hiatus since 2022, as all members, including Jin, fulfill their military duties—a requirement in South Korea for men under 30 due to ongoing tensions with North Korea.
Currently, Jin and another member, J-hope, have completed their military service, while the remaining members are expected to finish theirs by the end of 2025. The band is anticipated to resume their activities together in 2026.
