Pro-Palestine Activists Halt Police Van During Brixton March, Resulting in Two Arrests
Two individuals were arrested during a pro-Palestine march in Brixton, where activists obstructed a police van. The Metropolitan Police reported demonstrators encircling the vehicle and sitting across the road, blocking it.
Hundreds had rallied in Windrush Square in south London, advocating for an enduring ceasefire in Gaza. According to witnesses, the police intervened when the activists took over streets, disrupting traffic.
Amid the protest, one man was detained on the suspicion of committing a racially charged public order offense. Later, when police tried to drive away, protesters halted their vehicle, with some chants against the police caught on video.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest of one man for carrying an offensive placard and later the apprehension of a teenager for allegedly damaging a police vehicle.
The protests in London were decentralized, with multiple local demonstrations across various boroughs. Another significant number of protesters marched from Camden to Euston.
Signs were seen condemning Labour leader Sir Kier Starmer, and some participants were displaying messages against genocide. After concerns of antisemitism were raised in previous protests, officers distributed leaflets outlining legal boundaries. In seven weeks of demonstrations, over 400 arrests have been made, with more actions planned in Herne Hill.
