NASCAR Driver Paid in Cryptocurrency for the Remaining Season

NASCAR Driver Paid in Cryptocurrency for the Remaining Season

Professional NASCAR driver, Landon Cassill, recently announced that he has partnered with the crypto-asset platform Voyager Digital Ltd. in order to be paid in cryptocurrency. According to Cassill’s announcement he will be paid in crypto for the remainder of the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.

According to the announcement, Landon Cassill, who drives the JD Motorsports’ No. 4 Chevrolet, will be paid in cryptocurrency for the rest of the 2021 NASCAR season. Cassill is a big supporter of the crypto ecosystem and a friend of Voyager CEO Steve Ehrlich. The partnership will also see the No. 4 Chevy feature a “Voyager paint scheme in Saturday’s Tennessee Lottery 250 at Nashville Superspeedway.”

Cassill has said that he checks his “Voyager account probably 100 times a day.” Despite cryptocurrencies tendecy to volatility, Cassill is willing to take the risk. “Well, I mean, there is risk in holding cryptocurrency as there is with any stock or any investment,” Cassill said. “But for me, it’s something I’m familiar with, I’m comfortable with and I feel like I have a good handle on what I’m willing to risk and what I need to pay my bills.”

Landon Cassill joins the growing list of celebrities and athletes getting into digital currencies. Last year, NBA star Spencer Dinwiddie tokenized his contract and the NFL offensive tackle Russell Okung is paid in bitcoin (BTC). NASCAR driver Darrell “Bubba” Wallace revealed last July that the bitcoin logo would be featured on his Cash App-sponsored Chevy No. 43. Voyager’s CEO Ehrlich believes the partnership with Landon Cassill brings further visibility to the crypto ecosystem.

“It goes all to education, and what we try to do is educate the masses on why cryptocurrency matters, why digital dollars is where we’re going,” Ehrlich explained. “I always tend to ask people as customers or people that are wanting to learn more: When was the last time you actually used real greenback dollars? Most people don’t. They use debit cards, and everything is electronic anyway. So, this is the next phase of electronic currency.”

Cassill, a 31-year-old Iowan, has ranked 12th two times, once at Darlington Raceway in May and Daytona Road Course last February. Cassill has also been racing for a very long time since he was a little boy. At 16, Cassill obtained the record for the youngest winner in ASALMS history back in 2006. Ehrlich concluded by noting that this aims to go “to the moon” in terms of what they can do for “education and growth of both brands.”
