Monty Panesar and Hundreds of Others to Run as George Galloway's Workers Party Candidates in General Election
Monty Panesar, a former England cricketer, and a former Ukip MEP are among over 300 candidates running under George Galloway's Workers Party in the general election.
The party aims to capitalize on discontent over Labour's handling of the Gaza conflict.
They also stated they would support Jeremy Corbyn, Diane Abbott, and Claudia Webbe if they ran as independents.
Galloway is reportedly in talks with three Labour MPs and a peer about defecting.
George Galloway, the Workers Party leader, held a rally in Parliament Square with around 500 candidates, stating they are now a "national force." He won nearly 40% of the votes in the Rochdale by-election due to the Gaza conflict.
Labour dropped their candidate, Azhar Ali, over controversial Israel comments.
The Workers Party may siphon off Labour support but is unlikely to win other Westminster seats.
The Workers Party has announced several new candidates for the upcoming elections.
Chris Williamson, a former Labour MP for Derby North who was suspended over antisemitism allegations and lost a court battle to be reinstated, will be running.
Khalil Ahmed, a Labour candidate from the 2019 elections, will stand in Wycombe.
Amjad Bashir, a former Ukip MEP who defected to the Conservatives in 2015, will be running in Pudsey.
Additionally, two former British ambassadors, Peter Ford and Craig Murray, will be representing the Workers Party in unspecified constituencies.
