Film director Michael Mann has been treated in hospital and discharged after accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a firing range in Los Angeles. His representative described the injury as superficial.
The incident happened on Saturday. Mann was reportedly practising at a licensed range at about 4pm when his handgun discharged, apparently as he was trying to put it into its holster.
His representative confirmed that a firearm had discharged accidentally at the range, injuring the director, and that he had since been treated and released. The representative’s account did not specify the precise sequence of movements surrounding the discharge.
Mann, whose films include Heat, Public Enemies, The Last of the Mohicans and The Insider, has decades of shooting experience.
The reported circumstances place the accident during the handling of the handgun rather than a deliberate shot. Beyond the representative’s description of a superficial injury, no further medical details were given.
