Metropolitan Police and security services step up London operations ahead of demonstrations
Increased monitoring and crowd-control measures have been deployed across central London ahead of high-profile demonstrations near the US Embassy and government offices, with public safety and major road and transport disruption central to preparations.
A satirical London street scene shows Chancellor John Healey driving a red bus marked “GROWTH” towards a narrow police security chicane. An enormous weight labelled “PUBLIC DEBT — NEARLY £3tn” overhangs its roof. Healey carefully folds in his wing mirror, an absurdly small adjustment to an enormous clearance problem. Peaceful demonstrators stand behind separate roadside barriers.
