Lord Sugar issues Airbnb scam warning after a family show at his home

The 72-year-old Apprentice star took to Twitter to warn followers about an American family who had been scammed into paying $600 to rent one of his London homes through Airbnb.
Lord Sugar has revealed a family were scammed on Airbnb into renting his home

Took to twitter saying American tourists turned up at his home after booking three-night stay online
Airbnb were 'disappointed' to hear about the incident and are investigating

The multimillionaire has previously been a victim of a burglary at his Chigwell home

Lord Alan Sugar put out a warning of scammers using Airbnb to lure unsuspecting visitors into paying for non-existent rentals.

The Apprentice star, 72, revealed one of his London homes had fallen foul of the trick when an American family of six turned up expecting to stay there.

He claimed they had already paid $600 for three nights at the property.

'WARNING AIRBNB SCAM: Yesterday a American family of 6 turned up at one of my proprieties in London,' Lord Sugar said to followers on twitter.

'They had been scammed to think they could rent it for 3 days. The scammers took a photo from an estate agents web site and stole over $600 from these poor people. B******S.'

It is not known if Lord Sugar has alerted the police to the incident.

A spokeswoman for Airbnb told the Standard: 'We were disappointed to hear about this experience and are looking into the matter.

'More than 2 million people check-in to Airbnb listings each night and while bad experiences are incredibly rare, we work hard to make things right when they do occur.'

According to Airbnb’s policy, if a listing is 'misrepresented' on its website or app, a user may be eligible for a full refund.

A representative for Lord Sugar declined to comment further.

The property magnate - whose business Amsprop has dozens of commercial venues across London - was twice been burgled at his mansion in Chigwell, east London.

David Buisson, 49, was said to have carefully planned the break-ins and been on safe-cracking courses in the lead up to his six-month 'orgy' of burglaries, which involved Lord Sugar and West Ham boss David Sullivan.

Bussion, an ex-helicopter pilot, was said to have used Facebook to make a list of the 192 wealthiest people in Essex, with seven of the people on the searches later being burgled by him.

Bussion used a ladder to get inside Sir Sugar's home on June 5 last year and took watches and jewellery worth £184,000. He then returned the following night to try and open a safe with a drill.

Judge Ian Graham said it was difficult to understand the reasons behind Buisson's 'orgy of burglaries'.

He pleaded guilty to 10 burglaries at Basildon Crown Court and was jailed for eight years.

Multimillionaire businessman Lord Sugar is currently starring in the 15th series of BBC hit-show The Apprentice.
