John Swinney secures cross-party backing to expand renewable energy exports
The Scottish First Minister negotiated a legislative framework at Holyrood to speed up planning approvals for offshore wind and green hydrogen transmission corridors linking rural production sites with southern consumer markets.
In a deliberately surreal caricature, John Swinney and two generic politicians work shoulder to shoulder, pushing an enormous green electrical plug towards a socket marked “SOUTH”. Its cable leads back towards Scottish coastal wind turbines. Swinney looks sideways at his unexpectedly helpful colleagues. The plug is not yet connected: political agreement has opened the possibility of transmission, rather than completed it.
