Football: Christian Eriksen leaves hospital after successful operation

Danish Christian Eriksen leaves the hospital after a successful operation, after suffering cardiac arrest during Euro 2021.

International Christian Eriksen was able to leave Copenhagen hospital on Friday after a "successful operation", six days after his dramatic cardiac arrest during the Eurocup, the Danish federation announced.

Doctors said Thursday that the 29-year-old Inter Milan player would be implanted with a defibrillator to regulate his heart rate, raising questions about his continuity in professional football.

"The operation went well and I am well under the circumstances," said the player in a statement, who was also able to visit the concentration of his teammates north of the Danish capital.

The illness of Christian Eriksen, who lay unconscious for long minutes on the Copenhagen stadium lawn on Saturday before being saved by a heart massage and electric shocks from a defibrillator, sparked a wave of support, both in Denmark and abroad. .

"It was fantastic to see the guys again after their fantastic game yesterday (Thursday)," said Christian Eriksen.

"Thank you for the countless messages, it was incredible," thanked the Danish midfielder, who will continue with his family.

Defeated (0-1) by Finland in a match marked by the ailment of Christian Eriksen at the end of the first half, the Danes lost again (1-2) against Belgium on Thursday, and they have no choice but to beat Russia, in again in Copenhagen, to have any hope of going to the last 16.

The implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, or ICD, is a device that detects and corrects heart rhythm problems, to prevent the risk of sudden death.

Depending on the models, it can be implanted directly in the heart, or under the skin, in contact with the chest wall.

Although the Dutch Daley Blind was able to recover his career after wearing a heart device, specialists doubt that Christian Eriksen will be able to play a match in the elite again.
