Industrial Action Disrupts Manchester Derby as Rail Strike Affects FA Cup Final
The FA Cup final between Manchester City and Manchester United was affected by a rail strike, with around 12,000 members of the train drivers' union Aslef participating in the mass walkout.
The industrial action caused long journeys for football fans, with some spending up to four hours in the car and others paying £300 for a flight and carshare.
Some supporters criticized the strikes, with one fan calling it "vindictive" and another stating that it was "targeting the wrong people." However, other attendees said the journey was better than the train and that they were looking forward to the game.
Aslef general secretary Mick Whelan said that the union and the government were "further away than ever" from a resolution to the industrial action.
Unions are targeting their own members' pockets by forcing them to miss out on pay every time they strike.
The government has facilitated a fair and reasonable pay offer, and union leaders must put this to their members.
