Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Finalize Divorce After Eight-Year Legal Battle

The Hollywood power couple resolves divorce proceedings, but a separate legal dispute over their French vineyard continues.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have officially reached a divorce settlement, bringing an end to an acrimonious and highly publicized eight-year legal battle.

Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, confirmed that both parties signed the agreement on Monday, concluding a process that began in 2016 when Jolie filed for divorce.

The couple, once dubbed 'Brangelina,' met during the filming of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2004 and went public with their relationship in 2005.

They married in 2014 at their French estate, Château Miraval, and share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.

Over the course of their lengthy divorce proceedings, four of their children reached adulthood, leaving custody arrangements necessary only for the twins, who are now 16.

Jolie cited irreconcilable differences and alleged abusive behavior by Pitt as reasons for the split, including an incident on a private jet in 2016.

Although the FBI investigated the claims, no charges were filed against Pitt.

Initially declared divorced in 2019, the couple continued to dispute issues related to child custody and asset division.

A prior custody agreement was vacated after Jolie successfully petitioned to have a private judge removed for an undisclosed conflict of interest, forcing the process to restart.

One of the most contentious points in their legal battles has been the ownership of Château Miraval, their French vineyard.

Jolie sold her 50 percent stake to the Stoli Group in 2021, which Pitt alleges violated a prior agreement between the two.

He has since filed a lawsuit claiming the sale breached their verbal and written contracts.

A judge ruled in November 2024 that Pitt’s claims could proceed to trial.

Jolie’s company has accused Pitt of engaging in a 'vindictive campaign' to seize control of the profitable business.

Despite the resolution of their divorce, the legal dispute over the vineyard remains unresolved and could continue to unfold in court.

Pitt has reportedly sought to have Jolie’s sale reversed, while Jolie maintains that her actions were lawful.

Since the split, both stars have taken different paths.

Pitt is currently dating jewelry designer Ines de Ramon, with the couple making their relationship public in 2022.

Meanwhile, Jolie has focused on her family and is reportedly not dating.

Both continue to pursue their careers, with Pitt attending high-profile events and Jolie engaging in humanitarian efforts.

The conclusion of their divorce marks the end of a tumultuous chapter in the lives of two of Hollywood’s most iconic figures, though lingering disputes suggest their legal entanglements may not yet be fully behind them.
