The BBC has apologised to Amanda Abbington over verbal bullying by her Strictly Come Dancing partner Giovanni Pernice. Claims of physical aggression were dismissed after a review. The BBC is implementing new measures to support future contestants.
The BBC has apologised to actress Amanda Abbington for verbal bullying and harassment experienced during her time on Strictly Come Dancing with partner Giovanni Pernice.
While the review upheld several complaints regarding verbal misconduct, claims of physical aggression were dismissed.
Abbington termed the apology a 'vindication' and expressed hope that it would empower others to come forward.
Pernice, although relieved by the findings, expressed difficulty in dealing with the allegations and subsequent media scrutiny.
The BBC acknowledged their previous measures were insufficient and announced new protocols, including chaperones and welfare producers, to improve contestant support.
Pernice will not return for the new series and has joined Italy’s Ballando con le Stelle.
