Three lives lost, including a child, in a significant fire incident at a historic property
A man arrested on suspicion of murder following a tragic fire that claimed three lives, including that of a four-year-old girl, has been released without charge, according to Northamptonshire police.
The fire occurred at a former stationmaster’s house in Beswick Close, Rushton, near Kettering, on Friday evening.
The victims were identified as a 30-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man along with the young girl.
Authorities reported that the next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
The suspect, aged 54 and from Kettering, was apprehended on Saturday but was released by police the following day after a thorough review of the case.
DCI Ruby Burrow, the senior investigating officer from the East Midlands special operations unit, stated that the incident is being treated with the utmost seriousness to understand the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
"It is only right that an incident such as this is treated with the utmost seriousness, to make sure we have done all we can to understand what has happened for the sake of those who have died and their loved ones," she said.
Following a rigorous examination of available evidence, DCI Burrow indicated there is currently no indication of criminal wrongdoing.
The arrested individual will continue to receive support from specialist officers as he assists with the investigation.
Ch Insp Paul Cash addressed the community’s concerns, emphasizing that only one arrest was made during the early stages of the investigation.
He acknowledged the distress the incident has caused locally, assuring residents that officers would maintain a presence in the area for reassurance and assistance.
Emergency services responded to reports of a large fire at the property at approximately 10:30 PM on Friday.
Images from the scene depict significant damage, including a large hole burned through the roof of the Grade II-listed building, which was the former stationmaster’s house at the now-closed Glendon and Rushton railway station.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have requested respect for the privacy of the families affected during this profoundly difficult time.
