Airlines Contend With Storm Éowyn's High Winds at Heathrow
Heathrow Airport experiences severe disruptions as Storm Éowyn brings intense gusts.
On Friday, as Storm Éowyn swept across the United Kingdom, Heathrow Airport in London faced significant disruptions due to severe winds reaching up to 114 mph.
Aviation enthusiast Jerry Dyer captured the challenging conditions live on his Big Jet TV channel, showcasing numerous aircraft as they contended with turbulent landings.
Early Friday, viewers witnessed dramatic moments, including the 'floaty' landings of planes such as BA 787 and BA A321, as well as an American Airlines 787's 'wobble' during its approach.
In an incident highlighting the severe conditions, a BA A320neo experienced a particularly hard landing, and a BA 787 required de-icing of its wings.
Jerry Dyer, who grew up near Heathrow and developed a passion for aviation, began streaming plane landings in 2015 after an impromptu video featuring Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson piloting into London garnered attention online.
Dyer's Big Jet TV broadcasts have attracted a dedicated following on platforms such as YouTube.
As a result of Storm Éowyn, flightaware.com reported 69 cancellations and 67 delays at Heathrow on Friday, playing into broader logistical challenges as travelers were being urged to verify their flight status regularly due to the volatile weather conditions.
Authorities advised the public to stay indoors where possible, as millions faced potential disruptions across the UK.
