Afghan Refugee Breaker Disqualified for Wearing 'Free Afghan Women' Cape at Paris Olympics

Afghan refugee breaker Manizha Talash was disqualified from the Olympic breaking competition in Paris after wearing a cape with the slogan 'Free Afghan Women.' The World DanceSport Federation cited Olympic rules banning political statements. Talash, representing the Olympic Refugee Team, lost the battle and would not have advanced even without the disqualification.
Afghan refugee Manizha Talash, also known as 'b-girl Talash,' was disqualified from the first-ever Olympic breaking competition in Paris after wearing a cape that read 'Free Afghan Women' during a pre-qualifier battle against 'b-girl India,' India Sardjoe.

The World DanceSport Federation, the governing body for breaking at the Olympics, stated that Talash was disqualified for displaying a political slogan on her attire, which is against Olympic rules.

Talash, who sought asylum in Spain after fleeing the Taliban in 2021, was part of the Olympic Refugee Team.

Despite the disqualification, she would not have advanced as she lost the battle to Sardjoe.
