Rumba in Cheshire had to close today after she contacted them to tell them she had visited with the disease.

All staff on shift at the bar and restaurant in Congleton now need to be tested for Covid-19, while the venue has to be deep cleaned.

Management say the customer attended a number of bars on Saturday before she had received the results of the test.

They say they were contacted by the woman on Sunday night after she received the news she was positive.

A post on the venue’s Facebook page said: ‘Last night we were contacted by a customer who has tested positive for Covid-19 she was in the venue Saturday night from 7.45pm onwards.

‘Unbelievably, it appears that the customer had been tested, and the took the decision to visit various pubs in Congleton on Saturday evening prior to receiving her test result.

‘Although we have had no contact from NHS Track and Trace, we have closed Rumba for today to allow for all of our staff on shift to be tested for Covid-19 and for a deep cleaning of the venue.’

Management say they will be contacting customers who visited the venue on Saturday night to recommend a test.

They say they have also had to cancel bookings for people who had intended to take part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

Since re-opening, bosses at the bar say they have followed strict guidance from Public Health England regarding social distancing and other precautionary measures.

‘However as a further precaution we will be contacting customers who visited the venue on Saturday evening and recommending that they also have a test,’ they added.

‘The selfish actions of this person have unfortunately resulted in us cancelling bookings for today for people hoping to support us through Eat Out to Help Out, however if you had a booking for today we will gladly extend the offer to any other day this week if you would like to re-book.

‘We will be in touch with people with bookings within the next few hours.

‘Our house rules clearly state that if you are awaiting test results or displaying symptoms of Covid-19, then you should not visit Rumba.

‘If we all follow the rules, then Rumba and the other pubs and bars in Congleton are a safe place to relax and have fun.’

However, some commenting on their Facebook post defended the woman, saying she may not have had symptoms and could have had the test as a precaution or as part of her job.

One man wrote: ‘At work we get tested as often as you want. It doesn’t mean you have any more or less chance of actually having it.

‘If the person had the test because they felt they had symptoms then fair enough that’s just daft but other than that it’s unfortunate.

‘It sounds pretty responsible that they’ve rung around the places they’ve been.’
