Travel Disruptions Impacting London Commuters Following Fatal Incident

Trains at Liverpool Street Station delayed due to a casualty on the tracks; additional disruptions noted across multiple transport lines.
London's Liverpool Street Station experienced significant disruptions on Thursday morning after a fatal incident involving a person on the tracks.

Transport police confirmed that officials were summoned to the scene near Walthamstow shortly before 7 AM after receiving reports of a casualty.

Paramedics attended, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.

As a result of the emergency, services operated by Greater Anglia, London Overground, and the Stansted Express were affected.

National Rail stated that while the lines have since reopened, some delays are expected to continue through the early afternoon.

Further complicating travel for commuters, delays were also reported on the Piccadilly line due to a faulty track and the Metropolitan line was suspended for repair works.

In addition, parts of the Elizabeth line faced service interruptions this afternoon due to trespassers on the tracks.

The service between Maidenhead and Reading was specifically impacted, although other sections of the line remained operational.

There were reports of a vehicle collision on Coldharbour Lane near Herne Hill, leading to queueing traffic in both directions, prompting detours for several bus routes including P4, 35, 45, and 345.

Minor travel disruptions were also noted around Parliament Square attributed to parked tractors, causing congestion extending to surrounding thoroughfares including Whitehall and Westminster Bridge.

There were no signs of a scheduled protest at the time.

Despite the reopening of lines at Liverpool Street Station, National Rail indicated that some services may still incur delays of up to 30 minutes as they work to fully resume normal operations.

Additionally, ongoing equipment issues resulted in minor delays on the Northern line, while the Piccadilly and Metropolitan lines continued to experience disruptions throughout the day.

Motorway traffic was also affected by a crash on the M25 north of Barnet, resulting in partial blockage and delays near South Mimms, with only one lane currently open.

In central London, severe traffic delays were reported in Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea due to ongoing construction work, particularly near the Piccadilly Underpass and Cromwell Road.

These works are expected to continue until March 18, causing potential further delays in the coming days.

Passengers affected by delays today are reminded that they may be entitled to compensation based on the length of the disruption to their travel.
