The display, organized by Claire Nicholson, has grown each year with contributions from around the world. Nicholson, initially aiming to knit just 20 poppies, appealed for knitters on Facebook, leading to a global response.
The poppies are attached to a net shaped to fit the church's outdoor area and are stored for reuse each year. The project, which initially involved local community groups, now receives poppies from countries like Canada, Australia, Belgium, and the USA.
This year's display, the largest so far, is a community effort, bringing together local residents and attracting visitors. Nicholson plans to continue expanding the display and is open to ongoing donations. The tribute, which honors soldiers worldwide, will remain on view until November 23.
