Post Office Impeded Horizon IT Investigation, Claims Investigator
The Post Office intentionally obstructed an independent investigation into the Horizon IT system, according to forensic accountant Ian Henderson. His firm, Second Sight, found that the Post Office withheld crucial documents and diverted inquiries from potential miscarriages of justice. Despite identifying software errors and numerous wrongful prosecutions, the Post Office ended the mediation scheme addressing these issues in 2015, raising concerns of a criminal cover-up.
The Post Office intentionally hindered an independent investigation into the Horizon IT system, according to forensic accountant Ian Henderson.
His firm, Second Sight, was commissioned in 2012 to investigate the flawed accounting software that wrongly implicated hundreds of sub-postmasters in theft and fraud between 1999 and 2015.
Henderson stated that the Post Office withheld crucial documents and attempted to divert attention from potential miscarriages of justice, with former CEO Paula Vennells allegedly steering the investigators away from uncovering the truth.
An interim report published in 2013 identified software bugs, but the Post Office dissolved the mediation scheme set up to address the issues in 2015.
Henderson described the Post Office's actions as a cover-up, potentially amounting to a criminal conspiracy, leading to numerous wrongful prosecutions.
