PayPal Reboots UK Operations and Launches PayPal+ Loyalty Program for British Consumers
UK relaunch marks PayPal’s first-ever loyalty initiative, introducing debit and credit cards alongside a rewards scheme worth £10 per 1,000 points
PayPal is relaunching its services in the United Kingdom from November 12, unveiling a new “unified payment experience” that centres on its first-ever loyalty programme, PayPal+.
British users will now have access to debit and credit cards issued by the company, plus rewards points on both online and in-store purchases.
The move follows the company’s re-structuring in the UK market following Brexit.
Under PayPal+, enrolment is free via the PayPal app.
Members earn points on eligible transactions—including payments using PayPal’s balance, linked cards, or “Buy Now, Pay Later” options.
Every 1,000 points equals £10 to redeem at checkout, and points can be stacked with other loyalty programmes.
At the launch tier—Blue—customers earn standard points; as users spend more they reach Gold and Black tiers offering up to 50 per cent more value and VIP perks.
Additionally, PayPal is issuing its first-ever debit card in the UK, which links directly to the PayPal wallet and earns ten times as many points when used.
The card has no foreign-transaction fees and can be used globally.
A PayPal Credit card is also being introduced, with both virtual and physical versions planned for in-store and online use.
PayPal says the relaunch accompanies an investment of £150 million in new UK consumer products.
The development positions PayPal not merely as a checkout provider but as a full-service payments platform spanning high-street and digital retail.
It arrives amid intensifying competition from major banks and fintechs in the UK market, as PayPal seeks to deepen engagement, increase transaction volume and capture loyalty among its approximately thirty million UK users.
Terms and conditions published by PayPal UK state the PayPal+ programme is administered by PayPal UK Ltd and requires a personal UK-based PayPal account in good standing.
Points cannot be purchased, sold or transferred, and some transactions (such as gambling or transfers) are excluded.
Points expire if unused for three years.
By bundling payment services, cards and loyalty incentives, PayPal’s UK relaunch signals a broader strategic shift as it aligns with the evolution of digital commerce and omnichannel retailing in the post-Brexit environment.
