Netanyahu Faces Arrest in Italy Due to ICC Warrant
Italian Minister Confirms Obligation to Act on International Court Orders
Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto announced that Italy would be required to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visited the country, following an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant.
The ICC also issued warrants for Israel's former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and Hamas's military chief Mohammed Deif.
Crosetto, appearing on RAI television's Porta a Porta program, commented that he disagreed with equating Netanyahu and Gallant's actions with those of Hamas.
Despite his reservations, he stated that Italy, as an ICC member, has an obligation to execute the court's warrants.
Meanwhile, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed a more cautious stance, emphasizing the need for the ICC to remain a legal rather than political entity and mentioning that Italy would deliberate with its allies on how to proceed following the ICC's decision.
