Manchester Mother Ordered to Pay Compensation After Son's Riot Involvement
A Manchester mother must pay one thousand two hundred pounds in compensation after choosing a holiday over her 12-year-old son's riot sentencing. The boy, involved in violent incidents, received a 12-month referral order. The mother must compensate four victims for their distress.
A 30-year-old mother from Manchester has been ordered to pay one thousand two hundred pounds in compensation after she chose to go on holiday to Ibiza instead of attending her 12-year-old son's sentencing for his involvement in riots.
During the riots, which occurred between July 31 and August 3, the boy participated in violent incidents, including kicking a bus outside a hotel housing asylum seekers, targeting a vape shop, and throwing missiles at a police van.
The boy was sentenced to a 12-month referral order at Manchester Magistrates' Court.
The mother, who claimed her holiday cost approximately one thousand pounds, must pay three hundred pounds each to four victims: a bus driver, a housing officer, an asylum seeker, and a Sainsbury's store staff member.
District Judge Joanne Hirst expressed shock at the mother's decision to prioritize her holiday.
The boy, diagnosed with ADHD, has since started receiving help from social workers and taken up boxing.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of violent disorder.
