UK Drops Harvey Weinstein Indecent Assault Charges
UK prosecutors have halted indecent assault charges against Harvey Weinstein, disheartening his key accusers. Zelda Perkins and Rowena Chiu, who were instrumental in exposing him, criticize the UK's justice system and the influence of wealth. Perkins and Chiu call for legal reforms to better address sexual assault cases.
Women who played critical roles in exposing Harvey Weinstein's crimes are disheartened by the UK's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decision to halt two indecent assault charges against him.
Zelda Perkins, a former assistant who broke an NDA to reveal Weinstein as a rapist, criticized the decision for questioning UK justice's stance on sexual assault and rape.
The CPS halted the charges from a 1996 incident due to a lack of 'realistic prospect of conviction.' This follows Weinstein's 2020 conviction for sex crimes being overturned in New York.
Perkins highlighted issues in the justice system and wealth's role in legal loopholes, supported by Rowena Chiu, another former assistant.
Both stressed the need for legal reform and emphasized ongoing global efforts to expose and address sexual assault.
