On Thursday night, the Northern Lights, or aurora borealis, were visible across multiple parts of the UK, including Scotland, Northern Ireland, and as far south as Sussex.

BBC Weather forecaster John Hutchinson confirmed sightings even as far south as Kent.

Weather conditions were ideal for viewing despite temperatures dropping to 0C in some areas.

The phenomenon occurs when charged particles from the sun collide with the Earth's atmosphere, emitting light.

Another potential viewing opportunity is expected on Friday night, though chances are slimmer.
