It is the first a person is arrested for breaching the National Anthem Ordinance.

Police received reports two days ago, saying that footage online showed that a man intentionally flew the British Hong Kong flag and incited others to boo the national anthem and to chant slogans in a shopping mall in Kwun Tong, while China's national anthem was playing in the Olympic Games.

Police added that the man aimed to advocate hatred of the audience and politicize sport events.

Officers arrested a man around 1am outside Metroplaza in Kwai Chung, who was flying a British Hong Kong flag and inciting others to chant slogans with him. They also found him carrying 10 flags in different sizes.

The man was remanded in custody. Police said investigation is still ongoing and look into whether the man breaches the national security law.

It was understood that the man is a reporter for radio Freeman Express.

Officers will also investigate if anyone in the mall breaches the national security law or commits any incitement behaviors.

Police earlier said officers have started looking into the crowd booing China's national anthem in apm, which was played after Edgar Cheung Ka-long won a gold medal in foil fencing.

Cheung on Monday snatched the second gold medal for Hong Kong, which is also the first gold medal of the city in foil fencing.
