Portsmouth, a key departure point for the 1944 Normandy landings, hosted various events including a drone light show.

King Charles praised the veterans, lauding their courage and sacrifices in 'replacing tyranny with freedom.' Queen Camilla grew tearful, and Prince William read from Captain Alastair Bannerman's diary.

Concurrently, thousands of headstones at Bayeux War Cemetery in France were illuminated.

The commemorations will continue in France, marking King Charles' first overseas trip post-cancer diagnosis.
